The Style Monster

So, lately...I'm going through a bit of a phase. Or something. We young people do that, right? Reassure me here. It's like my taste in clothes has taken on a mind of its own o.o! My style this summer was basically like art teacher meets your churchgoing Grandmother (let's just be honest haha). For the last few months, I had had the strongest aversion to the mall and store-bought items. And suddenly, BAM! I find myself with the strangest things for fall...

Left: Charlotte Rousse, $12. Right: Etsy, $20.

Left: Maroon rose print pencil skirt, thrifted, $2. Middle: Dusty pink ruffled cami, JC Penney, $17. Right: Embellished rose T-shirt, Target, $22.

Left: Black & white stripe T-shirt: Faith21, $18. Middle: Huge abstract rose bag, Forever21, $18. Right: Simple black boots, Target, $40.

I know, the rose thing has gotta stop haha. But anyway! I've also got a few other things in mind that I'd like to slowly incorporate into my wardrobe and a few things on their way. I also invested in a basic black top, sweater, and pants. I'm also on the hunt for a nice leather jacket. I guess sometimes I just feel kind of, well, OLD dressing all in vintage/thrifted. In fact, well, a few people have told me so.

WAIT - I know what you're thinking. Don't let people change the way you want to dress, wear what you feel good in...I get it. But honestly, sometimes they were right! I'm still a bargain shopper though (after spending all that time paying less than $10 per garment, $40 on a shirt seems a little crazy!), but I am starting to feel a lot more open to more modern styles.

Honestly, you can just blame these (fabulous) people. Just a warning, only click if you are willing to be completely inspired!:

  1. My sense of style and how I want people to perceive me evolves too, so you're not the only one! ;) Lately I've been moving towards more of an eclectic-artsy look (one I've done before and love) and less of the straight up pin-up look. This is mostly because it's stinking hot here and impossible to wear a full face of makeup and my hair is limp and refuses to be coaxed into anything 40s-ish. haha! But I think it's good to explore and try different looks and even trends! It keeps your imagination and idea of what is attractive constantly growing and changing.

I really love that embellished rose tshirt! I bought a couple of plain, white tank tops at F21 this past weekend and plan on chopping one up to make similar ruffles for the other. ;) I just have to figure out which one fits me first; their sizing is so wonky, imho. haha!

  2. I feel the same way! It seems like my style just decided what it was going to be one day and it didn't bother to tell me. I tried on that rose top from target and I love it! I bet you will looks sooo pretty in it.

  5. I love those etsy necklaces. I to go through phases, but then not even phases, one day I'll feel like going 40's and the next I want to go 70's and then i just want to put on a t-shirt and jeans. I think its good to mix it up a bit :)

  6. Hey Mars - just wanted to let you know that i can make bigger skirts and have done for a lovely blogger called Lesa. Its totally not a problem, I've sort of made them to fit me because I'm worried no one will buy them, and then at least i can still wear them because I like them :) Anyway, goodluck on winning, and if you don't, well I'm completely more than happy to make skirts to your specifications, anytime!!
